Pope Elects Quebec City’s Gérald Lacroix as Cardinal

B

The election by Pope Francis of Gérald Cyprien Lacroix, the former Bishop of Quebec City, as Cardinal, provides a wonderful opportunity for the new Cardinal to provide moral and religious leadership in the current debate about Quebec’s proposed Secular Charter. It would be great if the new Cardinal Lacroix could convene a meeting of religious leaders from the Jewish, Muslim, Sikh, Christian Orthodox and First Nation communities to rationally and productively discuss the role of religion in the public life of Quebec with a goal of presenting a joint proclamation on religious rights for the Province of Quebec.
